With great pride Kaap de Groene Hoop presents a beautifully designed floating restaurant that will feature a sustainable menu with local products offered by nature. Inspired by the steal sculptures of Richard Serra the design by Zu studio feels like an abstract sculpture on top of a ship. The new geometry generates different spaces interconnected with each other and opens up to the ij water and beautiful views of the city from the harbor.
Birgitte is a marvelous sailing cutter with 2 masts that will get the attention it needs at Kaap de Groene Hoop. In close cooperation with Fair Transport and Zuiver Varen Brigitte will be renovated to start a new life as a zero-emission cargo ship.
Mr. Klaas Pater, the founding father of Rederij der Nederlanden (Shipping Company of the Lowlands) is a trailblazer for electrically powered tour boats. The Wapen of Amsterdam, being the fleets pride, is the biggest saloon boat of Amsterdam welcoming the staggering amount of 175 passengers.

Woodies at Berlin is the inspiring rendezvous of Esther and Huib at the center rak’s of Kaap de Groene Hoop. Esther is a stylist running a design store with exceptional and sustainable furniture and accessories while Huib is a craftsman managing a ships interior wharf. The combination of both arts has proven to be a successful tool creating floating homes for demanding customers from all over Europe.
Esther and Huib moved from the Ms. Van Riemsdijkweg to the impressive Pont 20 to be as close as possible to the ships they work on at the adjoining jetties.
Above anything, Esther and Huib are the spiritual and founding fathers of Kaap de Groene Hoop. During Sail 2015, while enjoying the festivities organized by themselves, all fell in place: a permanent sustainable harbor, an urban and nautical hub for sailors, craftsman, student and local residents. Kaap de Groene Hoop was born.
Rederij ‘t IJ is a family run shipping company looking after two characteristic ships: MS Stortemelk and Independent III.
The MS Stortemelk has a history of transporting tourists and locals to the Wadden-island of Terschelling. When faster and bigger ferries pushed MS Stortemelk out of business the ship was rescued from oblivion by Rob, his wife Debbie and the children eversince courageously sailing the Amsterdam waters.
Originally built as a tugboat the Independent III now serves as a floating Dutch brown café! Just like its bigger sister, the Independent III is the perfect host for a happy event on the water. The yearly Jazz op het IJ music fest is the ultimate demonstration of nautical hospitality and therefore Rederij ‘t IJ is involved in the cultural program of Kaap de Groene Hoop.
